has anyone researched using an I/R test and directing the subject to lie to the irrelevant questions?
Could this be like comparing a known lie to the relevant question?
It would seem the truthful person would react more to the directed lie where as the deceptive person would not focus on it.

Research has been done comparing "trivial" directed lies with what you are used to seeing here, which is comparable to what you mention. They don't work as well.
